Cycling day trip from Beaufort to Bourg-Saint-Maurice

Roll out from Beaufort, a postcard‑pretty Beaufortain village best known for its AOP mountain cheese, and head toward the Tarentaise. This is a big mountain day: about 97 km with roughly 3,550 m of climbing and a high point around 1,520 m. The route leans heavily on quiet roads, with stretches of farm tracks and some cycleways, plus a few short bits of gravel/ground—nothing too wild, but 32–35 mm tires will feel comfy.

Expect steady alpine climbs, balcony views, and long, flowing descents into the Isère valley. Villages punctuate the route for water and snacks; weather can swing fast at altitude, so pack layers. With most of the riding on calm roads, traffic is generally light, though you’ll touch a couple of busier sections—lights and high‑viz help in the valleys.

Roll into Bourg‑Saint‑Maurice, gateway to the Haute‑Tarentaise and the Les Arcs ski area, and a hub for white‑water on the Isère. Trains and cafés make it an easy place to wrap up, refuel, and brag about the day’s vert.
