Cycling day trip from Vác to Esztergom

A relaxed Danube Bend spin from Vác to Esztergom, about 56 km and almost flat (around 160 m of climbing). Roll out from Vác’s pretty baroque center and riverside promenade, then hug the river on mostly dedicated cycleways (roughly half the route), with smooth asphalt for the most part. Expect just a few brief gravel sections.

The ride strings together leafy embankments and small riverside towns, with plenty of café and bakery stops. Views are a highlight—especially across the water to the Visegrád hills and castle as you near Nagymaros. Traffic is generally light, with only short busier stretches.

Finish in Esztergom, Hungary’s former royal seat, crowned by the monumental Esztergom Basilica—the country’s largest church—and the photogenic riverfront by the Maria Valeria Bridge. Bring a camera, a lock for café breaks, and enjoy an easygoing day along one of Hungary’s classic cycling corridors.
