Cycling day trip from Tihany to Badacsonytomaj

Roll out from the Tihany Peninsula, taking a last look at the Benedictine Abbey and those famous lavender fields, then cruise west along the Balaton Cycle Path. It’s an easygoing, lakeside ride with gentle rollers (about 250 m total ascent) and big water views almost the whole way. Surfaces are mostly smooth asphalt and you’ll spend much of the time on dedicated bike paths or quiet streets.

Skirt Aszófő and the reeds, swing by Örvényes (peek at the old water mill), then thread through beachy villages like Balatonudvari and Balatonakali—perfect for a swim or lángos stop. Pass Zánka and the vine-dotted slopes start to appear; Révfülöp’s pier makes a great photo pause.

You’ll finish in Badacsonytomaj at the foot of the volcanic Basalt “mountain” of Badacsony, the heart of a historic wine region—think Kéknyelű and Olaszrizling in friendly cellar doors. Plan for roughly 43 km of riding; expect short, occasional rougher patches but nothing technical. Summer weekends can be busy, so start early, bring swim gear, and save appetite for a post-ride tasting.
