Quick ride by bicycle from Balatonalmádi to Veszprém

This ride takes you from the lakeside charm of Balatonalmádi up to the historic city of Veszprém—a perfect outing if you want to combine beautiful landscapes with a bit of a climb! The route covers a bit over 15 km, mostly on smooth paved and asphalt surfaces, and follows mainly dedicated cycleways and quiet roads, so you can really relax and soak it all in.

Starting at Balatonalmádi, you’ll enjoy views of Lake Balaton—Hungary’s famous “Hungarian Sea”—before heading inland. As you ride, there is a noticeable ascent (over 220 meters!), but the scenic countryside and occasional village make the effort totally worthwhile. The approach to Veszprém offers great vistas and a gentle descent as you enter town.

Veszprém, known as the “City of Queens,” is famous for its historic castle district and charming old town. It’s a great place to grab a post-ride coffee and wander the cobbled streets—it even held the title of European Capital of Culture in 2023.
