By bicycle from Badacsonytomaj to Tapolca

If you’re looking for a scenic, not-too-challenging ride in western Hungary, starting from Badacsonytomaj and finishing up in Tapolca is a real treat. This 18.4 km route starts in the charming wine village of Badacsonytomaj, nestled on the shores of Lake Balaton and famous for its volcanic hills and vineyards (if you have time, try a glass of local white wine before heading off!).

You’ll roll out mostly on quiet roads and smooth asphalt, with some relaxed cycleway stretches. There’s a gentle climb at the start, but nothing too tough—perfect for taking in open countryside views and a few glimpses of the Badacsony hills in the distance. Surfaces are mostly good, with just a tiny bit that’s gravel or unpaved.

You’ll finish in Tapolca, a cute little town known for its unique Cave Lake (Tavasbarlang), where you can paddle a boat underground! All in all, this ride is a scenic mini-adventure between two of Balaton’s highlights, great for a morning or afternoon outing.
