Cycling day trip from Malacky to Gbely

Get ready for a scenic spin from Malacky to Gbely! This ride covers just over 65 km and follows a mostly paved route through the rolling lowlands of western Slovakia. You’ll set out from Malacky, a historic town known for its charming manor house and proximity to the beautiful Záhorie Protected Landscape Area. As you pedal north, expect a good mix of quiet roads and country tracks—with just enough gentle ups and downs (about 195 meters ascent) to keep things interesting but not too tough.

About two-thirds of the journey is on smooth asphalt, but you’ll also get a splash of adventure on some gravel stretches—so wider tires aren’t a bad idea. With little busy traffic, you can really soak up the wide-open fields and scattered forests typical of this region.

Rolling into Gbely, you’ll finish up near Slovakia’s oldest oil wells and might even spot the unique “Naftový domček” (Oil House) museum if you have time to stop. All in all, it’s a lovely ride for anyone wanting a relaxed day in the saddle with plenty of authentic Záhorie charm!
