Cycling day trip from Brno to Mikulov

Roll out of Brno past Špilberk Castle and the twin spires of the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, then head south on signed bike routes (look for EuroVelo 9/Brno–Vienna Greenway). The ride is mostly flat and friendly: about 78 km with roughly 250 m of climbing. Expect long, quiet cycleways and farm tracks through South Moravian fields and villages—around 80% paved with a few short gravel stretches (touring tires are fine).

Skirt the Nové Mlýny reservoirs as the white limestone ridges of Pálava come into view. If you’ve got time, detour to the UNESCO-listed Lednice–Valtice cultural landscape for chateaux and parkland. Towns like Pohořelice, Pasohlávky, and Dolní Dunajovice make easy refreshment stops.

You’ll roll into Mikulov beneath Svatý kopeček (Holy Hill) and its baroque chateau. It’s one of Czechia’s wine capitals, with a charming square and layers of Jewish heritage—perfect for a post-ride glass of Grüner or Riesling.

Notes: wind can whip across the reservoirs, shade is sparse in summer, and the short gravel bits (about 11%) can be soft after rain. Most of the way uses separated cycleways, so it’s a relaxed point-to-point day out.
