Cycling day trip from Santiago de Compostela to Fisterra

This ride starts in the legendary city of Santiago de Compostela, famous for being the end point of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and home to its stunning cathedral. But today, you’ll be pedaling onward—west to the “end of the world,” the dramatic coastal town of Fisterra (Finisterre).

Expect a scenic journey of about 119 km, weaving along mostly quiet roads through lush Galician countryside and pretty villages. There’s plenty of climbing (over 2200 meters of ascent!), but it’s never too steep, keeping it enjoyable for most seasoned cyclists. The ride’s max elevation tops out at just under 432 meters, so rolling hills are the name of the game.

The surface is almost entirely paved or asphalt, with very little traffic, making for a smooth and peaceful ride. As you near Fisterra, the landscape opens up to incredible Atlantic Ocean views—a perfect reward for your effort. The destination itself, Fisterra, was once believed to be the westernmost point of Europe! Make sure to roll down to the famous lighthouse and soak in that “edge of the world” feeling before celebrating your epic ride.
