Cycling day trip from Sterzing to Brixen

This ride takes you from the charming alpine town of Sterzing (Vipiteno), known for its medieval center and beautiful mountain backdrop, all the way south to Brixen (Bressanone), one of South Tyrol’s cultural gems with its stunning cathedral and lively old town.

Covering about 35 km, the route is mostly on smooth, paved roads and cycleways, with just a bit of gravel and the occasional cobblestone stretch to keep things interesting. Expect a good climb early on—about 700 meters of ascent—but you’ll be generously rewarded with over 1,000 meters of descent as you cruise into the Eisack valley.

Most of the journey sticks to quiet roads and purpose-built cycle paths, so you can soak up the scenery without too much traffic. Along the way, you’ll pass lush meadows, forests, and maybe spot a castle or two. Take your time, enjoy a coffee in a village café, and end your ride exploring Brixen’s historic streets.
