Cycling day trip from Trieste to Poreč

Get ready for an epic cross-border adventure! This route takes you from the historic port city of Trieste in Italy—famous for its grand seafront, Austro-Hungarian architecture, and rich coffee culture—south into Croatia, finishing at the charming coastal town of Poreč.

You’ll pedal about 105 kilometers, enjoying a good mix of smooth asphalt cycleways and quiet roads, with a bit of gravel and some bumpy stretches to keep things interesting. There’s over 1200 meters of climbing, mostly gentle, but don’t be surprised by a few punchy hills as you leave Trieste and cruise through the scenic Istrian countryside.

The border crossing is a highlight, and the views are spectacular—think rolling vineyards, olive groves, and glimpses of the Adriatic. Once you roll into Poreč, reward yourself with a walk around its beautiful old town and famous 6th-century Euphrasian Basilica (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
