Cycling day trip from Tirano to Colico

This ride takes you from the historic town of Tirano, nestled at the edge of the Italian Alps and famous as the departure point for the legendary Bernina Express train, down to Colico, a lakeside gem at the northern tip of Lake Como. Covering nearly 75 kilometers, the route is mostly paved and gently downhill, with about 625 meters of climbing balanced by more generous descending—perfect for a satisfying day out without too much suffering.

You’ll be cruising along mostly cycleways and peaceful backroads, weaving through the Valtellina valley. Expect plenty of vineyard views, river crossings, and glimpses of dramatic alpine peaks before rolling into Colico. Once you arrive, reward yourself with a gelato by the lake, and maybe dip your toes in the water!
