Cycling day trip from Susa to Usseaux

From Roman Susa to storybook Usseaux—this one’s a mountain epic. Roll out from Susa in the Val di Susa, home to the Arch of Augustus and medieval lanes, then point uphill toward the Colle delle Finestre. It’s only ~35 km, but packs about 2,200 m of climbing, topping out around 2,170 m—so pace yourself.

The road winds through forested switchbacks and turns into a famous gravel sector near the top (think Giro d’Italia vibes). Views explode over the Alps before you drop into Val Chisone on mostly quiet, paved roads. A smooth descent delivers you to Usseaux, one of “I Borghi più belli d’Italia,” known for its painted murals, stone fountains, and sleepy alpine charm.
