Cycling day trip from Scandicci to Ponte a Ema

This ride takes you from the lively town of Scandicci, just southwest of Florence, to lovely Ponte a Ema, a hamlet famous among cycling fans as the birthplace of Gino Bartali, one of Italy’s greatest cyclists.

Covering just over 26 km, the route weaves through a good mix of quiet roads and dedicated cycleways—perfect if you enjoy escaping traffic and soaking up Tuscany’s scenery. Expect to climb just over 320 meters along the way, with some gentle uphills but plenty of rolling stretches to enjoy. The highest point of your ride tops out at around 180 meters, so it’s nothing too extreme.

Most of your ride is on smooth asphalt, with the occasional stretch of gravel or paving stones adding a bit of character—just keep an eye out in those sections!
