Cycling day trip from Merano to Bolzano

This ride takes you from Merano to Bolzano, two gems tucked away in South Tyrol’s gorgeous Alpine valley. You’ll cruise south for just over 31 km, mostly on smooth, dedicated cycleways, so you can really relax and enjoy the scenery. The route is nearly flat and mostly paved, making it perfect for all levels.

Starting out from Merano—a historic spa town famous for its mild climate and art nouveau architecture—you’ll follow the Adige river through orchards and vineyards. Don’t be surprised if you catch tantalizing aromas from nearby apple farms! The ride is mostly downhill, with a slight overall descent, so you can take it easy and savor the mountain views.

Bolzano awaits at the end, known as the “Gateway to the Dolomites” and celebrated for its blend of Austrian and Italian culture, plus cool sights like the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology (home of Ötzi the Iceman).
