By bicycle from Gambassi Terme to San Gimignano

Roll out from Gambassi Terme, a thermal spa town on the historic Via Francigena, and dive into classic Tuscan backroads. The ride is about 15 km with rolling hills—roughly 400 m of climbing and a touch more descending—so expect a few punchy ramps between vineyards and olive groves.

Surface-wise it’s a proper mix: about half on unpaved farm tracks (hardpack and some gravel) and about a third on asphalt, mostly quiet lanes with a brief busy stretch—ride single-file and stay alert there. Wider tires (35 mm+ or a gravel setup) make this way more enjoyable.

As you crest the ridgelines, the skyline of San Gimignano’s stone towers pops in and out—camera-ready views all the way. Roll into this UNESCO-listed “medieval Manhattan” and treat yourself to a glass of Vernaccia or a celebratory gelato.
