Bikepacking from Bolsena to Rome

This epic ride takes you from the beautiful lakeside town of Bolsena all the way to the bustling heart of Rome—talk about a dramatic change of scenery! Set on the northern edge of the volcanic Lake Bolsena, the town is famous for its medieval charm and ancient basilica. From here, you’ll pedal south through rolling Italian countryside, catching glimpses of vineyards, olive groves, and charming hilltop villages.

The ride is about 150 km with plenty of altitude changes—over 2,300 meters of ascent! You’ll get a real mix under your wheels, too: expect stretches of quiet rural roads, some decent gravel sections, and enough untouched countryside to feel like you’re truly adventuring. Around 40% is on missing or unclassified surfaces, so a gravel or sturdy touring bike is ideal.
