Cycling day trip from Bologna to Ferrara

You’ll start in Bologna, famous for its leaning towers, endless porticos, and some of the best food in Italy. The route mostly follows smooth cycleways and quiet roads, winding out of the city and across the gentle plains. You’ll barely notice any hills here, so it’s a great option if you want to spin your legs without breaking a sweat.

About 70% of your ride will be on paved surfaces (mostly asphalt), but keep an eye out for occasional gravel patches or missing sections—nothing your tires can’t handle! The last stretch rolls you right into Ferrara, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city wrapped in Renaissance walls, packed with castles, and perfect for a post-ride gelato.
