Cycling day trip from Bergamo to Milan

Spin out from Bergamo and its UNESCO-listed Venetian walls, then glide southwest toward the Adda. From the river area near Trezzo/Vaprio, hop onto the Naviglio Martesana greenway and just follow the canal all the way into Milan, passing towns like Gorgonzola and Cernusco sul Naviglio.

It’s about 68 km and mostly easy going: roughly 150 m of climbing and 275 m of descent, with long, flat canal sections. The route is overwhelmingly paved and largely on bike paths and quiet roads, so it’s a relaxed, confidence‑friendly ride. Cafés and water stops are frequent along the canal; bring lights for the occasional underpass.

Roll into Milan along the Martesana toward Via Melchiorre Gioia/Porta Nuova, then weave on city bike lanes to the Duomo if you like. Fun fact: Bergamo’s hilltop Città Alta is wrapped in 16th‑century Venetian fortifications, while Milan is Italy’s fashion capital and home to the spectacular marble Duomo and Leonardo’s “Last Supper.”
