Cycling day trip from Ulcinj to Sutomore

Ulcinj to Sutomore is a punchy coastal ride with big views and plenty of character. Rolling out of Ulcinj—Montenegro’s southernmost seaside town, known for its cliff‑top Old Town and the 13 km Velika Plaža—you’ll wind along mostly quiet roads through the coastal hills. Expect serious ups and downs: roughly 1,150 m of climbing with a high point around 427 m. It’s mostly paved, but there are some tracky sections and bits of paving stones, so wider tires (28–32 mm+) are a plus.

The route trades between olive groves, small hamlets, and sparkling Adriatic panoramas, keeping you off the busiest highway stretches. Refill bottles whenever you can; services thin out between villages.

You’ll finish in Sutomore, a beach town with a lively summer promenade and a long sandy strand. If legs allow, a short hike up to the ruined Haj‑Nehaj fortress rewards you with sweeping sunset views. Otherwise, kick back by the water—or catch a train from Sutomore’s station if you’re heading onward.
