Cycling day trip from Karojba to Pazin

Roll out from Karojba, a quiet Istrian village on the edge of Motovun’s truffle-rich forests, and head southeast through rolling farmland and drystone-walled lanes toward Pazin. It’s about 25 km with roughly 570 m of climbing, so expect a few punchy rises and steady grinders across the karst plateau, topping out around 420 m.

The route strings together farm tracks and quiet backroads with a short stretch on a busier road—nothing long, but lights and a bit of caution help. Surfaces are mixed: plenty of hardpack and the odd gravelly segment alongside smooth asphalt, so wider tires (35–40 mm) are a good shout. Water and shade can be sparse between villages; top up before leaving and plan a mid-ride stop if you spot an open café.

Roll into Pazin, the administrative heart of Istria, dramatically perched above the Pazinčica gorge. Don’t miss Pazin Castle and the view into the famous cave that inspired Jules Verne’s “Mathias Sandorf.” Perfect spot to cap the ride with a coffee.
