Cycling day trip from Del Mar to La Jolla

Cruising from Del Mar down to La Jolla is a classic coastal ride, perfect if you love ocean views and some rolling climbs. Start out in the charming beach town of Del Mar—home to the iconic Del Mar Racetrack and lots of cozy cafés. You’ll pedal mostly on paved, quiet roads, with a generous mix of dedicated cycleways. There are a few decent hills (you’ll gain nearly 400 meters of elevation in total), but the ocean breeze and stunning views of the Pacific keep things nice and refreshing.

The route is roughly 25km, making it a solid ride without being too intense. As you roll south, you might catch glimpses of the famous Torrey Pines (and maybe a glance at the bluffs if you sneak through Torrey Pines State Reserve).
