By bicycle from Zarnesti to Poiana Mărului

If you’re looking for a scenic and moderately challenging ride in the heart of Transylvania, this route from Zărnești to Poiana Mărului is a gem! Spanning just over 14 km, the ride starts in Zărnești, a lively little town nestled at the foot of the Piatra Craiului mountains and known as one of the gateways to the stunning national park.

Your journey takes you north on a mix of quiet roads and tracks, winding through rolling hills and tranquil rural landscapes. There’s a good blend of asphalt and gravel, so wider tires will definitely be your friend. You’ll climb nearly 450 meters (don’t worry—the scenery makes it worthwhile!) before a gentle descent toward Poiana Mărului.

As you reach Poiana Mărului (“Apple Meadow”), you’ll be greeted by a peaceful village vibe, surrounded by forests, meadows, and mountain views—perfect for a rest and some photos.
