Cycling day trip from Cluj-Napoca to Rimetea

Ready for an adventurous day out? This route takes you from the bustling heart of Cluj-Napoca—Transylvania’s unofficial capital—out to the stunning village of Rimetea, famous for its white houses and incredible mountain backdrop.

Clocking in at just under 84 kilometers, this ride is no joke! With almost 1,900 meters of climbing, you’ll cross through hilly landscapes, forests, and quiet villages. Around two-thirds of this route is on missing or mixed surfaces, so expect a real mix—some sections will be smoother paved or asphalt, while others call for a bit of grit on gravel, ground, or rural tracks.

You’ll mostly avoid busy roads, which keeps things peaceful. Once you make it to Rimetea, reward yourself by soaking in the view of the Piatra Secuiului cliffs or grabbing a bite in one of the local guesthouses. This little village is actually a UNESCO award winner for cultural heritage. Make sure your bike (and legs) are ready for a proper Transylvanian challenge!
