By bicycle from Eidelstedt to Altona

Here’s a great cycling route if you want to go from the northern Hamburg suburb of Eidelstedt down to the vibrant district of Altona. You’ll cover just over 10 km, mostly rolling along quiet roads—so it’s a relaxed ride without too much traffic, perfect for an everyday commute or a leisurely weekend outing.

Starting in Eidelstedt, which is known for its local charm and friendly neighborhoods, you’ll pass through mainly paved surfaces with a mix of asphalt and paving stones, making it smooth riding almost the entire way. Expect a gentle ascent of just under 60 meters, so nothing too strenuous; it mostly feels like cruising.

As you approach Altona, the vibe shifts from suburban to urban. Altona is one of Hamburg’s liveliest quarters, famous for its mix of cultures, waterside parks along the Elbe, and excellent food spots—so it’s a great place to end your trip (and maybe grab a bite!).
