Quick ride by bicycle from Budapest IX. kerület to Budapest II. kerület

This is a fantastic cross-city cycling route starting in Budapest’s lively IX. kerület (Ferencváros), known for its mix of trendy cafes, bars, and the iconic Great Market Hall. You’ll set off on predominantly smooth terrain, mostly cycleways and quiet roads—great for a relaxed ride.

Expect some moderate climbs, especially as you head northwest and cross the Danube, leaving the flat inner city behind and easing into the greener, hillier Buda side. The II. kerület, your destination, is famous for its leafy streets, historic villas, and views of the Buda hills. Along the way, you’ll ride over mostly asphalt or paving stones, so city tires will be just fine. It’s about 11.5 km and should take under an hour—unless you stop for coffee or a riverside photo!

While most of the route is paved and safe for cyclists, keep an eye out for a few missing sections where you might need to share the road or navigate briefly among pedestrians. All in all, it’s a great way to see two very different sides of Budapest on two wheels!
