Quick ride by bicycle from Óbuda-Békásmegyer to Budapest XXII. kerület

Roll out from Óbuda–Békásmegyer and hop onto the Buda-side Danube cycle path, heading south. It’s a mostly smooth, riverside cruise past Óbudai-sziget and the old waterfront, with long stretches of dedicated cycleway and big-sky views over the river.

This route is about 17.4 km, largely flat with gentle ups and downs (around 134 m ascent/140 m descent). Surfaces are friendly: mostly asphalt, with the odd patch of paving stones or cobbles near older quays.

Keep following the riverside and linked bike lanes past university campuses and parks, then glide onto Budafoki út toward Budafok–Tétény (Budapest’s XXII district). You’ll finish in a neighborhood famed for its wine heritage—think sprawling limestone cellars and the Törley sparkling wine legacy. Perfect spot to cap the ride with a café stop or a cellar visit.

Fun fact: Óbuda is the oldest part of Budapest, home to the Roman ruins of Aquincum, while Budafok is often called the “City of Wine” for its historic cellar network carved into the hills.
