Quick ride by bicycle from Baloži to Riga

This easygoing ride takes you from Baloži, a cozy garden town just south of Riga, straight into the heart of Latvia’s lively capital. The distance—just over 17 km—is easily doable for most cyclists, especially since the route is mostly flat and the ascent is super gentle.

You’ll spend most of the journey rolling on smooth asphalt, with more than half the way dedicated to cycleways or quiet roads. That means you can relax and enjoy the countryside around Baloži before the scenery shifts to Riga’s buzzing streets. The vast majority of the route is paved, but there’s a tiny bit—about 2%—of gravel, so wider tires aren’t a bad idea.
