Hôtel de Guénégaud Hôtel de Guénégaud was built in 1655 for the wealthy and esteemed secretary to the king. At the time, Monsieur de Guénégaud des Brosses (great name) was secretary to the king and had access to considerable funds. He chose the architect François Mansart (1598-1660) to build his palace. Today, the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature is housed in the last of that architect's hôtel projects still standing. The restoration process was painstaking — a team of experts gutted the entire building before starting over. It was a curator's dream, allowing them to customize the space according to the collection. All the interior fittings are brand new, from the curtains and parquet flooring to the wood-paneled ceilings. Yet nothing is jarring to modern eyes; the museum's designers have respected the original colors and detailing.

Museum of the Art and History of Judaism At the Museum of Jewish Art and History you trace the evolution of Jewish artistic and cultural heritage. The museum focuses on French Jewish history since the Middle Ages. Its collection is one of the finest in the world and includes works by Marc Chagall, Chaim Soutine, Michel Kikoine and Amedeo Modigliano.

GF - Breizh Café While sporting a wide selection of crepes and pastries, the savory Breton crepes served by this cafe are naturally gluten-free. If you are extremely gluten-free conscious, you can also simply ask for your order to be made from buckwheat flour and they will get it done. The portions are big and are guaranteed to fill you up. Add some beers and cider on the side, and you’ve got yourself a complete meal!

Hôtel Salé, 5 Rue de Thorigny, 75003 Paris, France The hôtel particulier that houses the Musée Picasso was built in 1656 for Pierre Aubert, a lucky Parisian who became rich collecting the salt tax. It is considered one of the finest historic mansions in the Marais, making it also the ideal location for the Musée Picasso. The mansion changed hands several times. It was once the Embassy of the Republic of Venice, expropriated during the French Revolution, and in 1815 it became a school where Balzac studied. Luckily, the City of Paris purchased it in 1964, when it was classified as a Monument Historique. The interior has been restored to its former glory, including the central staircase based on designs by Michelangelo for the Laurentian Library in Florence.

Fromagerie Laurent Dubois Though these fromageries are quite possibly the priciest in Paris, this is where I go when I want a one-of-a-kind cheese or if I’m looking for the very best cheese that France has to offer. I suggest taking your time and asking questions. They welcome cheese-loving visitors from all over the globe, so the staff are multilingual and have been expertly trained to help you put together the perfect cheeseboard, or choose cheeses to vacuum seal (sous-vide) to take home with you. The extraordinary products offered here, such as a ewes’ milk cheese meticulously layered with minced black truffle, fresh chèvres marinated in nut oils with herbs and chiles, as well as the classic French fromages are worth every centime.

Carnavalet Museum - 23 Rue de Sévigné, 75003 Paris, France This rambling mansion (actually, it's two mansions) is the perfect place to discover the history of Paris. It's rarely crowded and has many fascinating permanent exhibits as well as a pretty garden to relax in. Access to the permanent galleries are free. A grand re-opening in 20201 revealed an expanded, refreshed museum that's a delight to visit.

Place des Vosges In the Marais you can visit the oldest place, or square, in Paris and one of the prettiest. Place des Vosges was the inspiration for hundreds of squares (it's where the name came from) around Europe and the first Paris park to be open to the public. A great location to start your walking tour of the Marais, you can explore the shops along Rue des Francs Bourgeois and stop for a Jewish pastry on Rue des Rosiers. Place Royale (as it was first called) was built by Henri IV and is a true square, measuring 140 m x 140 m.
