About This Route

Die Stadt Köln wurde unter preußischer Verwaltung (seit 1815) mit einem doppelten Festungsring umgeben. Er musste aufgrund des Versailler Vertrags nach 1919 geschleift werden. Zusammen mit der römischen Stadtmauer, der mittelalterlichen Stadtmauer, dem inneren und dem äußeren preußischen Befestigungsgürtel finden sich heutzutage in Köln Reste von vier Befestigungssystemen.
