About This Route

Brockenhurst to Burley via the disused Southampton-Dorchester railway line avoiding the very, very busy main roads as far as possible. There are no car parks near the Brockenhurst end so the start of the trip is some distance away but the roads are not heavily used (in March at least). One section of the line has been converted into a busy main road. Luckily there is a track a short distance from the line down by the river. Unfortunately it is not possible to rejoin the line until some way after it restarts. The path into Burley avoiding Pound Lane is not really suitable for city bikes, the start is especially tricky with the sandy soil and deep, narrow, "gullies" (which catch on the peddles) on a steep climb but once this part is over the rest is doable.
