A purely utilitarian route from Wheatley to the John Radcliffe Hospital using the cycle path alongside the A40. Much less fun than the alternative route via Shotover, but much flatter and probably to be preferred at night (despite problems being dazzled by headlights on this route if travelling towards Oxford in the dark). Once you reach the Green Road roundabout a number of alternative routes to the JR are possible: the one shown is quiet and relatively safe from traffic, but it does cross Bury Knowle Park, which is unlit, so alternative routes are likely to be preferred at night.
Enter the JR by the gate by the Ivy Lane flats
Use the Croft in preference to New High Street. This provides a quiet and safe route between Bury Knowe nad the JR. However, be alert for pedestrians, particularly on blind corners and emerging from houses and gateways directly onto the street.
