A lovely route going Northwest out of York alongside the River Ouse on Sustrans Route 66. Excellent food can be obtained near Shipton where you pass the Il Treno Restaurant (point 9), you cant miss it, it utilises an old Pullman Railway Coach and sits alongside the East Coast main Line for any (railway buffs). A little furthur, we enter the grounds of thee magnificent National Trust property, Beningborough Hall and gardens (point 13). Food can be obtained here except during the winter. As the route leaves the Hall grounds, we arrive at Newton on Ouse, a little village with a great pub. Good pub food and quality ales
A littl further on and we can visit Linton Locks, where there is a pub that seves food within 20 feet of the river and locks perfect fr a sunny day!
The route out is so good, you are recommended to take the same route home and savour the views of the river and York Minster on the way. Safe for any road worthy bike, apart from going over a couple of railway overbridges, the route is completely flat and is 15Km each way.
