About This Route

Did this clockwise so got the main hills in first half of the ride. Quiet roads except in Carlisle. Road surface very bad in spots between Ecclefechan and Canonbie in places, espaecially at fastest parts of downhills in bends! Urban stretch from Harker to Carlisle not that nice - main road is very busy though slow queued traffic mainly. Plenty of railway access if you want to do this loop - Lockerbie, Gretna and Carlisle. Facilitites abit thin between Lockerbie and Canonbie and between gretna and Millhousebridge. Fantastic views to southwest, into N.E. Lake District fells, and lovely countryide throughout. Omitting the carlisle panhandle knowck about 10 miles of this and there are numerous other shortneings using quiet roads.
