I started cycling in February 1971 with a Peugeot UO-8 all-French bike, riding from downtown Philadelphia out along the Wissahickon’s bridle path to my grandmother’s and father’s houses. I suppose I rode gravel long before it became the rage. Seeing four Canadians time-trialing outside Montreal in 1972 persuaded me to acquire my first pro bike, an all-Campy Nuevo Record Raleigh Professional With a Reynolds 531 frame. I raced this bike for almost two years in the Northeast and Colorado before downsizing from a size 61cm to a 58cm Masi Gran Criterium in 1974 that I also raced on with similar unspectacular results. I rode that bike through France, Germany and Denmark that summer and rode there again the next two years. I also rode track at T-town on a Colnago that was super comfortable. Marriage and child rearing cut in to further overseas adventures but enabled me to hit the road in Virginia, Maine, Connecticut and New York State. Since 2001 I have returned to riding during the summer in Colorado in the Rockies. Finally semi-retiring on 1/1/20, I am looking forward to again undertaking cycling adventures on the road, paved or gravel, throughout this globe..
