Ascoli Piceno Borghi Grand Loop (MTB)

A classic MTB loop linking the hilltop borghi around Ascoli Piceno in Italy’s Marche. Expect a mix of quiet back roads, farm tracks, and forest paths, with cobbles through historic centers and a few short busy connectors. It’s punchy and very hilly—long climbs and quick descents—so bring low gears and good brakes.

Surfaces swing from asphalt to gravel and dirt, so an MTB (or a tough gravel bike with wide tires) is ideal. Highlights include Ascoli’s travertine piazzas, olive groves and vineyards, chestnut woods, and views toward the Sibillini Mountains. You’ll pass plenty of villages for water, coffee, and snacks, but carry enough between stretches.

Best in spring or autumn; summer can be hot and rain turns the tracks slick. Strong riders can tackle it in a big day, or split it into two with an overnight in a borgo. Navigation isn’t always obvious, so grab the GPX and expect the occasional push or stair section.
