The Jura Escape on a mountain bike

Échappée Jurassienne MTB

A collection of 10 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A classic mountain bike traverse across the French Jura, rolling from vineyard country into the wild Haut-Jura. Expect mostly unpaved riding: long forest tracks, plenty of gravel, and some rocky singletrack, with short links on quiet village roads.

It’s a multi-day ride with real elevation—steady climbs to limestone plateaus, shaded spruce forests, clear rivers, and wide views toward the Alps when the sky is clear. You’ll ride through Comté and Vin Jaune country, so resupply stops are tasty, but some stretches feel remote—plan water and snacks.

Best from late spring to autumn. Go with sturdy tires (2.1"+), low gears, and lights for short days in the woods. Trains serve the region, so a point-to-point setup is easy. Ride it north or south—either way, the Jura delivers.
