RijnWaalpad Cycleway (Nijmegen–Arnhem)
A cycling tour with 3 stages, starting in Arnhem, Provincie Gelderland, Netherlands.
Overview
About this tour
The RijnWaalpad is the fast, flat bike link between Nijmegen and Arnhem. It’s about 18 km, mostly smooth asphalt, with long stretches on a separated cycleway and a few short bits on quiet streets. Climbing is minimal (~20 m up/down), so it’s easy on any bike—great for commuting, training laps, or a relaxed cruise.
Start in either city and follow the clear signs through Gelderland’s polder landscape. You’ll roll past open fields, dikes, and river views while avoiding busy traffic for most of the ride. Both ends connect well to the main train stations, so riding one way and taking the train back is simple.
Surface is almost entirely paved and fast. Want more distance? Link up with local riverside paths along the Waal and Rhine, or loop through nearby towns for coffee. Quick, safe, and efficient—this is the go‑to intercity route in the region.
