A collection of 13 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A coast-to-coast ride across Sicily’s backbone. This collection links quiet country roads with a sprinkling of gravel and farm tracks, rolling through hilltop towns, vineyards, olive groves, and big inland views. It’s a proper climb-fest with plenty of coffee and cannoli stops along the way.

Surfaces are mostly paved, with stretches of gravel/ground and the odd cobbles or paving stones in historic centers. Expect calm backroads, some busier sections near towns, and a few rougher tracks. A gravel bike with 38–45 mm tires (or a hardtail MTB) is ideal.

Vibes: salt pans and windmills in the west, golden fields and limestone ridges in the middle, and—on a clear day—Mount Etna on the horizon. Water, bars, and bakeries pop up regularly in villages, so refueling is easy.

Best seasons are spring and fall; summer rides mean early starts and extra water. Be ready for punchy climbs and the occasional short push on loose bits. Mix and match stages, overnight in B&Bs or agriturismi, and use trains/buses in bigger towns for logistics. A classic Sicilian traverse—scenic, spicy, and unforgettable.
