Seerücken Route (Schaffhausen–Arbon, Switzerland)

A collection of 4 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A scenic ride over the Seerücken ridge from the Rhine to Lake Constance. Starting in historic Schaffhausen (Rhine Falls is a quick detour), you roll through Thurgau’s apple country and quiet villages before dropping to the lakeside in Arbon for a well-earned swim or gelato.

Expect a mix of smooth tarmac and farm tracks with some gravel—most of it on quiet roads, with only a few short busy stretches. Figure on roughly 80 km with about 800 m of climbing, mostly gentle, with steady ups and downs along the ridge. On clear days you’ll get big views toward the Alps and across the Bodensee.

It’s a great day ride. 32 mm+ tires make the gravel bits comfy. Water and food are easy to find in towns along the way. Trains at both ends (Schaffhausen and Arbon) make logistics simple, so you can ride one-way. If you like rolling countryside, orchards, and lake vibes at the finish, this one’s a winner.
