Enns Cycle Route (Styria)

A collection of 6 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

Ride the Styrian stretch of the Ennsradweg (R7), following the Enns River through alpine valleys, small towns, and the wild Gesäuse. This collection links classic sections around Schladming, Liezen, and Admont, then rolls east toward Upper Austria.

The vibe: mostly smooth, well‑signed paths and quiet roads right by the river, with a few short gravel bits and the odd busier road near towns. It’s a great tourer’s route—scenic, practical, and easy to split into day stages.

Highlights you shouldn’t miss: Dachstein views in the upper Ennstal, the stunning Admont Abbey library, and the dramatic cliffs and rapids of Gesäuse National Park. There are plenty of swim spots, village cafés, and picnic greens along the way.

Good for touring bikes and gravel bikes. Most sections are family‑friendly; expect a generally gentle downstream trend with some punchy little climbs, especially around Gesäuse.

Logistics are simple: frequent train stations along the Ennstal line make shuttling or shortening stages easy. Best season is late spring to autumn. After heavy rain, check for river‑side closures.

Tips: carry lights for the occasional underpass, watch for mixed‑traffic stretches, and bring a bit of cash for rural bakeries. Enjoy the flow and let the river lead the way.
