D2 Baltic Sea Cycle Route

A collection of 15 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

Germany’s D2 follows the Baltic coast from Flensburg by the Danish border to Usedom/Świnoujście. Think long, mostly flat days on signed cycle paths, quiet roads, and waterfront promenades, with a few short bits of gravel, cobbles, or sand near dunes and harbors.

Highlights roll by one after another: Kiel and the canal locks, UNESCO-listed Lübeck, the resort towns around the Bay of Lübeck and Wismar, Rostock and Warnemünde, the brick‑gothic old town of Stralsund, plus the lagoons around Greifswald and Wolgast. Expect beaches, lighthouses, piers, and the occasional ferry—pack a windbreaker and enjoy the sea breeze.

This collection sticks to the coast where it’s nicest, favoring paved options but keeping scenic detours. It’s family‑friendly and works well both ways; many riders go west‑to‑east with the usual winds. Trains reach most bigger towns for easy starts, finishes, or bail‑outs, and you’ll see D2 and EuroVelo 10 signage along the route. Summer is lively (and busy), while spring and early autumn are great for quieter rides.
