Weser River to Romantic Road

A big cross‑Germany ride linking the Weser valley with the Romantic Road’s fairytale towns. You’ll roll easy riverside miles at the start, then swing south through Franconia and Bavaria toward vineyards, timber‑framed villages, and castle country.

Surface-wise it’s mostly smooth and paved with lots of quiet roads and signed cycleways, but expect some forest tracks, gravel, paving stones, and the odd cobbled old town. A touring or bikepacking setup with 35–40 mm tires is ideal. There are short stretches on busier roads here and there.

It’s a long one (around 1,250 km) with gentle days along the Weser and more rolling terrain as you head south. Highlights can include spots like Hameln on the Weser, Würzburg’s wine hills, medieval Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and, if you go all the way, Alpine views near Füssen.

Ride it either way; Germany’s trains make access, shortcuts, and bail‑outs easy. Best from spring to autumn. Pack for mixed weather, save time for bakeries and half‑timbered town centers, and enjoy the variety—river paths, country lanes, and quiet woodland tracks all in one go.
