Transnevada Winter Stages

A collection of 7 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

Winter-friendly stages from the classic Transnevada loop around Sierra Nevada, Andalusia. Expect big mountain views, white villages, and mostly unpaved riding—long stretches of gravel and farm tracks with just a touch of tarmac.

This set keeps to lower, more accessible sections for colder months, but it’s still a serious ride: roughly 293 km with over 11,000 m of climbing. Ideal for a gravel bike with wide tires or a hardtail MTB. It gets remote in places, with easier resupply in towns like Granada, Güéjar Sierra, Lanjarón, Órgiva, and Guadix.

Winter tips: pack layers, watch for shade and ice on north-facing slopes, and check track conditions after snow or rain. Phone signal can be patchy; bring lights and spares.

Highlights include olive and almond groves, chestnut forests, Moorish acequias, and sweeping Alpujarras views. Most riding is on quiet tracks with very little traffic. String it into a multi-day bikepacking tour or dip into single stages for a stout day out.
