Trans-Canada Trail (New Brunswick)

A collection of 12 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A big slice of the Great Trail across New Brunswick, linking river valleys, forests, towns, and a windy Atlantic coast. Expect a true mix: paved paths and cycleways through cities, long gravel rail trails in the countryside, and some on-road stretches that can be busy. It’s rideable on a touring or gravel bike; 35–45 mm tires are a sweet spot.

Highlights include the Saint John River valley (with mellow riverside paths in Fredericton), urban waterfront riding in Saint John and Moncton, and classic Acadian coastal vibes around the northeast. Miramichi and Bathurst anchor the northern reaches, with plenty of quiet miles between.

Terrain is generally rolling with a few punchy climbs, especially near the Fundy side. Services cluster in bigger centers—Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, Miramichi, Bathurst—so plan water and snacks for rural gaps. Lights and a mirror help on the road links.

Best seasons: late spring through fall. Summer can be hot inland and breezy on the coast; bugs show up in early season; fall colors are excellent. New Brunswick is Canada’s only officially bilingual province, so expect friendly bonjours and hellos along the way.

Tackle it in sections for day rides or string together a tour—either way, it’s a great window into NB’s rivers, woods, and sea.
