Japan Pacific Coast Cycling Route
A collection of 3 cycling routes.
Overview
About this collection
A classic coast-to-coast-ish ride along Japan’s Pacific side, linking Chiba to Wakayama through beach towns, port cities, and long riverside paths. It’s mostly paved and well signed, with plenty of stretches on dedicated cycleways and only short hops on busy roads. Think sea breezes, boardwalks, and the odd headland climb.
Do it end-to-end as a big tour, or pick your favorite sections for a day ride. Urban bits around Tokyo Bay and Shonan are lively and flat; Shizuoka can deliver Fuji views on clear days; farther west you’ll find quieter bays and fishing villages. Convenience stores, stations, and bike shops pop up often, so resupply and bailouts are easy.
Tips: winds can be a factor, and there are occasional gaps where you’ll join regular roads—ride lights, watch for tunnels/bridges, and follow local signage. Surfaces are mostly smooth, but expect the odd rough patch. Overall, it’s a friendly, scenic route that’s great for newcomers to Japanese touring and still fun for veterans who want an easy-going coastal roll.
