Overview

About this collection

Ride the German section of EuroVelo 2, the Capitals Route, linking the Netherlands to Poland via Berlin. It strings together quiet country roads, dedicated cycleways, and park paths, with mostly smooth asphalt plus the odd stretch of gravel and paving stones through villages and city centers.

Expect largely flat to gently rolling terrain, especially across Brandenburg, and a big-city highlight as you roll into (or out of) Berlin. Wayfinding is generally good—look for EV2 signs and, in places, the R1/D-Route 3 markers.

Best time is spring to autumn. A touring or gravel bike with 32–40 mm tires is perfect. German regional trains usually take bikes, so it’s easy to split the route into weekend chunks or bail out if the weather turns. Services are frequent in towns; in rural bits, carry some snacks and cash. Watch for tram tracks and cobbles in cities, and soft forest paths after rain.

Whether you’re crossing the country or picking day stages, this is a relaxed, scenic line that blends capital-city energy with calm countryside.
