Hanse-Wendland Cycle Route

A relaxed countryside link between the Hanseatic area around Lüneburg and the quiet Wendland. Expect roughly 115–120 km mostly on quiet country roads and lanes, with some farm tracks and a few short paths. Surfaces are largely paved/asphalt, plus about 9 km of gravel and occasional paving stones or cobbles through villages. It’s mostly flat with gentle rollers—great for a laid‑back weekend tour or a solid day out.

Scenery mixes Elbe floodplain vibes, forests and fields, half‑timbered villages, and the Wendland’s quirky circular “Rundling” settlements. You’ll get long, calm stretches with only brief stints on busier roads.

Best on a trekking or gravel bike; road bikes are fine if you’re okay with short rough bits. Rideable year‑round, but spring and autumn are extra nice. Services pop up in small towns—plan water and snack stops between them. Go either direction, take your time, and enjoy the low‑traffic backroads that make this route feel unhurried.
