F414 Aalst-Zottegem Cycle Highway (proposed)

Future fast cycling link between Aalst (on the Dender) and Zottegem, the gateway to the Flemish Ardennes. The route is still a work in progress, so expect a mix of finished cycleways, quiet streets, and a few short path/track bits with the odd busy crossing.

Surfaces are mostly paved (a lot of concrete and some asphalt), so it rolls well. Terrain is gently hilly—nothing crazy, but not pancake-flat either.

When complete, this will be a solid commuter corridor. For now, it’s a nice exploratory ride using the built sections and local detours. Both towns have train stations, so one-way rides are easy.

Tips: keep an eye out for gaps or works, follow F414/fietssnelweg signs where they exist, use lights at crossings, and take care on the on-road segments. Family-friendly on the completed stretches.
