About this collection

Follow the Lippe river across North Rhine-Westphalia and ride through Roman history. The main route is about 295 km, mostly flat and well waymarked, great for relaxed touring or a family trip.

You’ll roll on lots of smooth asphalt and paved paths with some easy gravel and farm tracks mixed in—perfect for touring or gravel bikes with panniers. Expect river meadows, canals, and friendly towns like Lippstadt, Hamm, and Dorsten. History fans get the good stuff too: the LWL-RömerMuseum in Haltern am See and the Archaeological Park in Xanten near the western end.

It’s easy to break into stages thanks to frequent train connections. Cafés, bakeries, and swim spots pop up often, so you’re never far from a break. Start near Detmold/Bad Lippspringe and finish in Xanten on the Rhine (or flip it for tailwinds). Mostly flat, scenic, and full of stories—an easy win for a few days on the bike.
