Hanseatic Cycle Route

A collection of 6 cycling routes.

Overview

About this collection

A flat, scenic ride linking historic Hanseatic towns along old trade routes and river dikes. Expect mostly smooth, paved riding with long stretches on dedicated cycleways and quiet roads, plus a little bit of cobbles and paving stones in the old centers and the odd short gravel link. Elevation is minimal (think a couple hundred meters total at most), so wind on the open dikes is usually the biggest “hill.” It’s a great all‑day challenge for strong riders, or split it into a relaxed 2‑day tour with plenty of café and photo stops in the historic cores. You’ll roll past riverside views, brick warehouses, city gates, and leafy parks—classic Hanseatic scenery. Surfaces are overwhelmingly paved, family‑friendly, and town services are never far away. Ride it either direction, bring layers for breezy sections, and enjoy the mix of heritage and easy miles.
